Indian mythology 2.
Avesta Traetaona it is rather close to vedic Trita. (Thus in 'Avesta' is also own Trita - as soon as splitting there is uniform image. This Trita was the great healer who has expelled from the world illnesses. He was the third person who has squeezed out gold juice of haoma - a sacred plant and he became a father of mighty son Keresaspa, who won set of dragons and demons. But vedic Trita is more ancient. Separate pies of myths give interesting data about this mysterious Indian deity. Trita, being at the bottom of deep well, appeals about the help. Or he incurs fault for murder by Indra three headed dragon Visvarupa. It believes in earlier variant of myth Visvarupa has struck by Trita. The ancient Greek Triton and especially the hero of Russian fairy tales Ivan Third (Ivan Tret'jak, Ivan Vodovich) which having won three headed serpent, appears in well - 'other world' on fault of brothers is close to this image. (Myths of nations of the world, 1998. v. 1, 530 - 531). The third wins tripartite one - ancient Indo-European plot. In adds much in our understanding of mythology of the Cultural Hero.
The ancient Indian myth about the Vala is especially interesting. According to Vedas, certain demons Pani steal cows of the God of Thunder Indra . That, together with dog Sarama, finds a cave of demons and returns loss. Vala roared from depths, but Indra defeated him. This plot is very close to Baltic myth. There is all symbolical - and name Pani - is similar to the Greek Pan (the lord of herds, woods and fields, Pan is also a projection of the God of Earth Powers), and participation of a dog which, similarly to the wolf is the eternal ally of the God of Thunder (by the way, in mentioned dualistic legends is spoken about enmity of the wolf to Vels) and Vala's image (Vritra's brother, swallowed up heavenly waters and the fallen most a victim of Indra).
Visvarupa. (A. Fantalov, 2001, watercolour on paper).
Indian mythology talks that god artisan Tvashtri have got the son Visvarupa. This Visvsrupa have got three heads and was the priest of gods. However, Indra was afraid that Visvarupa will be to help asuras and the Thunder God has decided to kill him. As a killing of priest is great sin, Indra asks help from Trite - mystery god. Then the Thunder God chop three Visvarupa's heads (at this moment birds flew up from heads jaws).
The picture shows more ancient variant of myths. Perhaps, once Visvarupa was killed by Trita (see for similar instance: Zoroastrian mythology 2. ).
Vala. (A. Fantalov, 2001, watercolour on paper).
The myths about stealing of cows, is very important plot. "Vedas" talk as Panis (demons) who lived at the world's end stole sky cows and conceal them in a cave. As these cows were rays of down that drive chariot of goddesses the down Ushas, darkness came into world. Indra sent his dog Sarama on deliverance of them. Sarama reached fortress of Panis and said him the order of gods. But Panis bribed her by means cow milk and when Sarama return to Indra she lied him. However Indra and sages Angiras knew truth and came to the cave. Indra defeated Panis and then Angiris by means their singing broke the cave. The cows come out. Vala (the soul of the cave) roared as he mourn for lost of cows and then Indra defeated him. Vala likes Slav Veles and Celtic Cernunnos
